Ethical Principles for AI Use

  • Fairness and Non-Discrimination
    AI systems must be designed and monitored to prevent bias and discrimination. Teams must assess training data for representativeness and take steps to mitigate unintended harm, especially related to race, gender, age, disability, or other protected attributes.
  • Transparency and Explainability
    AI systems must be explainable to affected individuals, particularly when used in decision-making that impacts rights, opportunities, or obligations. Employees must be able to describe how and why the AI reached a decision in clear, understandable terms.
  • Human Oversight
    AI systems must be subject to meaningful human oversight. Automated decisions that affect individuals in a significant way (e.g., hiring, account suspension, customer credit scoring) must include a human review process before finalization.
